How to build link for your work at home blog

Some webmaster and bloggers think that building high amount of backlink can help them for get higher rank on search engine, but I think it is not completely true, because I have seen that some websites is high on search engine by getting very small amount of inbound link, compared to their competitors. So why it happens? There are two factors involve on Search Engine Optimization, that is on-page and off-page. So if your work at home blog is not fully on page optimized then getting few quality inbound link you can not expect high rank on search engine.
When it comes to say about on-page optimize of your work at home blog, you have to keep it mind the following factors
1. Are you optimizing your blog for targeted keyword? If your blog is within specific niche then use your targeted keyword within the content for which you want get rank on search engine. But do not staff your keyword, its a spam. just use your keyword when it necessary.
2. Do you use anchor text within your content? Link to your homepage by using your main keyword as anchor text. Search engine can find all your pages by linking within your pages.
3. Is your robot.txt file is hampering search engine spider for crawl your pages? Go to google webmaster tool account and see if there occur any error on crawling your pages.
4. Is there any HTML error on your template or theme, that search engine spider can not parse your pages? Go to google webmaster tool account and see is there showing any HTML error.
If your blog is fully on-page optimized, now see your off-page optimization factors. Now a days search engines are going smarter, they do not give value of links that come from spammy websites, like link you get by commenting on blogs that lots of spam comments. If you do not know what are the source of getting backlink of your blog, then analyze the backlinks of your competitor by using yahoo site explorer or like other tools that you favor. Always try to get high quality links from pages within your blog niche. This type of links are more valuable than other unrelated links. Furthermore try to get link by using your main keyword for which you want to get high on search engines.
When optimize your work at home blog by building links try to optimize one or two pages of your blog that fully on page optimized with keyword. This is because might be your home page is not optimized with your keyword, if your blog include some keyword less post also. So it is recommended that optimize your one or two pages which is fully optimized with your main keyword, this will help you for get rank your optimized blog post on search engine.
Well above are some factors which are helpful for SEO. Except these there are many elements that influence on search engine ranking, the more requirement your blog fulfill the more chance of getting your blog high rank on search engine.

I am using all in one SEO plug in, which I think one of the best plug in for onpage SEO. I do not use other tool for onpage, but for offpage I use some tool for analyze the backlinks.
You are right but I think commenting on dofollow blogs are still the key factor to rank high in search engines.
